Several of our members have mentioned that although summer is still very much with us, they can sense fall approaching. Can you feel it? Maybe you notice a slight smell in the air? I noticed it about 2 weeks ago. I felt it as the sun was going down. A slight chill on the breeze that made me wonder where my sweater was. Of course, it was gone as soon as it was there.  Time is slipping by quickly. So many things I had planned to get done this summer. So much to do and so little time.

This month, I would like to talk about forgiveness. As time is passing us by we often forget how important that forgiveness is. We have been taught to forgive since we were children. We forgive our family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. But how often do we forgive ourselves? It is very important that we do this as well. Forgive ourselves for our part in each incident and confrontation in our lives. Even if we did not start the problem, we were somehow involved. In forgiving ourselves, then we complete the cycle and let it go, so that we can move on and not carry the weight of that burden with us every day.

But what does forgiveness really mean? How can we forgive others and ourselves when what happened is not ok? It means that we are not saying what happened is ok. We are saying we are no longer giving the incident/person or situation to have power over us.  We decide to let it go and move on with our lives. Sometimes we have to forgive several times before we completely let go.  Minute by minute. Hour by hour and day by day. Once we practice forgiveness on a regular basis, we will find that our lives are much easier. We feel light, much more free and open to welcoming to new people in our lives.  This is what Jesus wanted us to do. This is part of loving our neighbor as ourselves. It is not always easy, but it is definitely worth the effort.
